Charlotte Cornish
Charlotte Cornish limited edition signed art prints
Charlotte Cornish's work has a realistic
starting point, initially inspired by travel abroad and personal
experience. The development and final resolution of the work then becomes
an abstracted process, with shapes and forms moving from a descriptive
starting point towards a more symbolic form. Colour plays a vital role in
all of Cornish's work, as she explores its relative values and power in
conveying both emotional and visual concerns.
Charlotte graduated from the University of Brighton in 1990 and went on to
complete her postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at the Slade Schools of Fine
Art and an Advanced Printmaking course at St Martin's College. She was
honorary research assistant in Printmaking at the Slade School of Fine Art
from 1993–1996 and a Lecturer in Printmaking at De Montfort University
from 1994–1996. Charlotte is now a full-time professional painter and
printmaker and lives and works in Cambridge.
Artist's statement
"Generally,
both my paintings and prints have a realistic starting point, initially
inspired by images collected from travel abroad. In recent years this has
included trips to Marrakesh, Cairo, and Tunisia.
The development of the work then becomes an increasingly abstracted
process, with shapes and forms moving from a descriptive starting point
towards a more symbolic form. The final composition and resolution of the
work is a fusion of the initial visual source material, and elements and
themes taken from personal experience.
Colour has always played a vital role in my work, and I continue to
explore, and be engaged with, its relative values and power in conveying
both emotional and visual concerns."
